Celebrating Ben & Abi🥳 | I met their wonderful Mum when we were deep in the trenches of the newborn fog. Amidst the exchange of survival stories and solidarity, a friendship flourished and brought us to this moment, celebrating TWO of her little people.

When the party was scheduled, I reached out with a request to make the cakes as I tiptoe back into parts of my old identity. She kindly agreed and here we are.

Mr Three is a curious, introspective soul with a keen love of bubbles, quiet chats and fire engines. He delighted me by digging straight into his chocolate cake, filled with chocolate cream cheese filling and making sure he got a share of his sister’s cupcakes.

Miss One is a cheeky little thing blossoming alongside her sibling. Her little body is figuring out its relationship with eggs, so her first cake-worthy moment is marked with a vanilla cake topped with eggless white chocolate frosting. It got her full face of approval as she nibbled her way through it.

I think kids and their unfiltered reactions may be my new favourite customer base!

I was so nervous about running a session with a toddler in tow. Little man stepped up to the occasion splendidly with complete disinterest in everything I was doing (this time). I have so much appreciation for everyone that understands the toddler life and gives you grace. 🕊️Saarah & Neil | The Favours. Their beautiful budgie Beau @beaudacious_budgie couldn’t make it from Sydney to the wedding. So we brought him to life as a signature Oh That Be Good vanilla shortbread biscuit for everyone to enjoy. It was such a special feeling seeing them all lined up at the venue🥰.

This one took a few test runs and a little tweak to the usual shortbread recipe to retain all the intricate details post bake. Luckily, my helpers had a keen eye for detail and flare for perfection, which made these budgies shine.

Huge thanks to Paula of @missioncabanaflowers who found a way to curate the tiniest Violas and Manukau flowers to adorn the biscuits. Complete with @heilalavanilla goodness on the inside, @heilalavanilla sugars on the outside and a flick of @colour.mill gold lustre for a bit of glamour.

Tis certainly been a while since a wedding cake graced this feed…so here’s my sister’s wedding cake!

After being part of the Oh That Be Good story, there was no messing around with this woman and what she wanted: three tiers; his and her flavours and floral finishes. The rest was up to me. It all came together better than I imagined with the local flowers sourced by @monrae_flora . Not too bad for a slightly rusty baker ifidosaysomyself.

His | Brown Butter Beaut featuring layers of brown butter cake, filled with peach compote, macadamia brittle and vanilla SMBC.

Hers | Double Chocolate Cherry - the flavour I once created for the bride got to feature at her wedding even. Layers of chocolate almond cake, filled with chocolate ganache, cherry compote and almond caramel praline.

Brought to life with the help of the village who looked after the little Mr whilst I put this together. His contribution: turning up the oven temp when no one was looking. Let’s just say Aunty Saarah’s cakes were saved by a whiff and a bell.

Celebrating Helen | Nestled in a corner in Walkerville is a little gem of a shop @gitanjali_co run by a delightful human - Helen. She and I got chatting on one of my many visits and discovered a shared interest in pretty things and cake. That one interaction left me invigorated as we explored ideas for collaborations and discussed all things life.

I was so excited when she gave me a buzz a few weeks ago with this vibrant brief that is an ode to her love of Indian art (think Henna and bold colours she said). Hidden beneath a selection of beautiful blooms (handpicked by her) are layers of vanilla cake, filled with passionfruit curd, raspberry buttercream and pops of raspberry for every bite. This one had many angles so here’s all my favs in one!

I had so much fun creating with my little helper along for the ride. Happy birthday Helen!

Hello Spring! Revealing the reason this biz has been a lot quieter than anticipated. Earlier this year, life took a beautiful twist and bestowed upon me the adventure of parenthood. Our little human is due this season and I am taking a short break to prep for the big arrival.

Oh That Be Good is still very much alive, it will simply keep evolving around the new demands of life. I have no idea what this will look like, so ask for a little patience and a lot of support as I figure it out.

Farewell 2021 | This year was a quiet one for Oh That Be Good. Amidst the many shifts in my life, I consciously scaled back the effort to be ‘always on’ and embraced a little ‘que será, será’. It was deeply uncomfortable, yet oh so necessary. I feel refreshed and recharged as a human (yes, that took a whole year of work) and ready to focus on this biz baby in the new year.

Thank YOU for sticking around. You brought me plenty of little wins throughout the year. I enjoyed every cake-worthy moment and loved that my online shop helped you connect with friends and family whenever it was most needed. You helped me find joy in this little enterprise even when it was at its quietest. For that, I am ever so grateful!

T'was a fun brief to match a @partywithgracie playset complemented by some stunning local and seasonal blooms that Rebecca of @ponder_posy sent my way. Hidden beneath the floral crown are layers of chocolate cake filled with strawberry frosting and smothered in vanilla buttercream.

This cake represents the first official order in the new home (yes, am counting all my firsts). I am finally starting to find my feet in this city, so here’s to creating cake-worthy moments together soon!

Cuppa & Conversation | As you might have spied, my world has been filled with floral shortbread biscuits throughout the month of August. These tiny, but mighty delicious treats have made their way around Australia, equipped with Chai from the @the_chairoom and reminders for self-care by @leena_ratanjirani to help facilitate check-ins in the spirit of the movement that enables meaningful conversations: 'R U OK?'.

Thursday, 9th September is a national day of action spearheaded by @ruokday an Australian charity that focuses on suicide prevention by encouraging people to meaningfully connect with those around them.

Over the last few weeks, we shipped over 70 Cuppa & Conversation packs all across Australia. We spied them mark milestones, facilitate corporate check-ins, provide an excuse for virtual tea parties, and in some instances, simply act as a reminder to take a quiet moment. Much to our delight, these care packs have cut through the digital fatigue and given people a tangible way to feel a little more connected. As creators of handcrafted products, we couldn’t be happier.

We know that sometimes you are the confidante and in other times, the one seeking counsel. Whichever headspace you find yourself in today, we hope you can make use of our favourite conversation starters: Chai and Biscuits, before they take a break for the year. The Secret Garden | New space, new cake. Felt a little auspicious to open my kitchen in Adelaide with a bake for a favourite human - Hannah! Happy birthday eve you beautiful soul. Yes, tis time for #lilpartyforhannah2

I dedicate this series of firsts for you with a little #caketopforward, a floral arch, our favourite aussie natives, an illustration and then some @lil.bakerr -esque flavour feels (try saying that in one breath). Hidden beneath the arch are layers of chocolate cake, filled with brown butter cream cheese frosting and hazelnut brittle, smothered in vanilla SMBC. This cake was bestowed upon some very happy recepients post creation and they all thank you kindly for being born.

I took my liberties experimenting with this coz that's very true to form with Hannah. I confess, caking after 3 months in a new space was an adventure in itself. Many a thing went wrong and all in all I felt like this little bebe missed some 'oomph' in aesthetic. However, I persisted and it was done 💪🏾. Will there be more arch cakes in my future? The jury's out on this one. In the mean time feast your eyes on this bebe.

Cuppa & Conversation | Once again, ‘Are you okay?’ has become the prevalent question we find ourselves asking and being subjected to, even in 2021.

For me, the check-ins through care packages, texts and calls still remain critical for my wellbeing. I love surprising folks with a package in the mail and jumping on a call to chat together after. So, it felt fitting to rekindle the partnership with Fatema of @the_chairoom to support the movement that enables meaningful conversations: 'R U OK?'. Marie Antoinette reimagined. Conceptualised by Poonam of The Maharani Diaries and Neha of Saisha Photography, this shoot captured the regal extravagance of the 18th Century with a little South Asian flair.

Shamelessly showing off it's innards to the beautiful audience is an elderflower lemon cake, filled with mixed berry compote, dressed in vanilla buttercream and plenty of florals. Thanks for eyeing that slice just right ladies, it would love you right back!

The Illuminator| she is strength and positivity. Inspired by the all the moods of Pantone's Colour of the Year 2021, this cake helped @manookiw celebrate another year around the sun. It was so endearing that her furr baby snuck a taste before she did!

This year's Pantone combination of Grey and Yellow satisfies my soul in all its symbolism. Described as practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, it promotes a message of happiness and fortitude - much needed don't you think?

Hidden beneath the blooms are layers of chocolate almond cake, filled with brown butter frosting and hazelnut praline caramel; smothered in a trusty @heilalavanilla buttercream. That @caking_it_up Sahara stencil did some wonders with a touch of buttercream and lustre dust on each tier!

A Succa For You| Last week, this little cake channelling all the Zen I could muster went out to Gary from his better half Nipuni. These two humans have indulged in many Oh That Be Good moments over the years; it was certainly a fitting finish to close off orders with them. I stole these succulents from Gary's garden a few years ago, only to return them (alive and thriving even) as heroes on his cake. Hidden beneath them is my signature Tiramisu Triple featuring two of Gary's other loves: coffee and chocolate.

This cake gives me all the warm fuzzies and felt like a worthy feature this Easter. I cannot help but reflect on how different it is to 2020. Last Easter, we were busy scurrying around Sydney with the first run of biscuit deliveries to keep you connected. This year, my weekend is filled with many of my favourite humans. I know we are quite fortunate to experience this shift and are savouring every minute. I hope you are all having a lovely long weekend filled with goodies wherever you are!

Sydney is the city that stole my heart. It’s where I rekindled my passion for baking and met all of you wonderful customers and business owners who turned Oh That Be Good into more than just a phrase I say. This nomad is ready for change and fortunately, it comes with supporting my partner in life achieve his dreams.

So, what does this mean for you? Dear reader, rest assured, we can go the distance (read that as Lady Whistledown would). Like all long-distance lovers, we adapt! The online shop is now a permanent fixture to help you access creations even from afar. Sydney will become the place of pop-up events and experiences - watch this space.

I will be up and running in Adelaide as soon as all relevant registrations are complete. To allow for this, I will be closed from April-May. I am now open exclusively for Adelaide wedding bookings commencing June 2021; so do get in touch to plan those celebrations!
